Shipping Container Restrictions
Shipping containers cannot exceed 20′
Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco
Required Documents: OBL or AWB as applicable, original invoice if the shipment exceeds the limit
Customs Regulations: Duties will be assessed against Bermuda Customs Tariff
Clearance: Usually 24 to 48 hours. Customer presence is not required for clearance.
Remarks: Any person may import up to 200 cigarettes, 50 cigars, 1.137 liters of spirits or
1.137 liters of wine duty-free. Customers may combine multiple types of each product to reach the total, but may not exceed the total allotted amount.
Diplomatic Removals
Required Documents: OBL or AWB as applicable
Customs Regulations: Duty free
Clearance: Usually 24 to 48 hours. Customer presence is required for clearance.
Remarks: Exempted from duty according to Article 37 of Diplomatic Privilege Act 1980
Firearms and Weapons
It’s important to note the following prior to shipping your container to Bermuda.
Required Documents: Strictly prohibited
Customs Regulations: The importation of firearms and weapons is prohibited.
Household Goods and Personal Effects
Required Documents: OBL or AWB as applicable
Customs Regulations: Reading books and used clothing is duty-free, while other items are subject to specific duties.
Clearance: Usually 24 to 48 hours. Customer presence is required for appraisal at delivery for clearance.
New Furniture
Required Documents: Original OBL/AWB, original invoice
Customs Regulations: Subject to specific duty
Clearance: Usually 24 to 48 hours. Customer presence is not required for clearance.
Remarks: Proforma invoices are not accepted by Bermuda Customs
Pets and Animals
Required Documents: Proof of inoculation
Customs Regulations: Must be a minimum of four (4) months old and examined by a doctor ten (10) days prior to arrival in Bermuda.
Clearance: Customer presence is required for clearance.
Remarks: All animals require a permit from the Bermuda Dept. of Agriculture and Fisheries.
Vehicles
Required Documents: Original OBL/AWB, original invoice or bill of sale
Customs Regulations: Subject to specific duty
Clearance: At least one (1) full work week. Customer presence is not required for clearance.
Remarks: Those shipping vehicles to Bermuda are restricted to size and engine capacity. Shippers are required to have a license from the Transport Control Department to use their vehicles. Speak to your shipper regarding whether or not your vehicle can ship to Bermuda with fuel in its tank.
